History: The branch of knowledge dealing with past events. Dictionary.com.
History is a branch, a branch of knowledge, dealing with past events. That could mean a lot, perhaps quite different that what many people would expect. History: The record of past events. How about, History: Past time, especially chronological. The more authorititive definition makes me wonder. The verb "dealing" implies a less strict management of knowledge than say, recording, would. Dealing could mean some knowledge is retained and some knowledge is discarded, even that some knowledge is changed. Isn't acknowledged knowledge only acquired through record, through recording an event or thought - history the re-presenting of a past event or thought? Does the more authoritative definition of history imply that it is the knowledge of filtered or transformed events and thoughts? I thought I knew what history meant, but now I'm not so sure what history really is :)
What has really happened? As far as the world history is concerned, few may actually know. As far as this site's concerned, you can see for yourself;
